Maria was born and raised in the Philippines. She moved to the United States for a golf scholarship at James Madison University, where she majored in Psychology. The writer inside of her was woken up when one of her professors gave her one of the best compliments she claims she's ever received: that her writing was "truly Tolstoyian." Today, she is conquering impostor syndrome as a writer, by building the courage to write beyond the pages of her journals and use her voice, with the hopes to inspire and cheer on others. An interesting fact about Maria is she has Retinitis Pigmentosa. A rare genetic eye condition that has left her legally blind, but has motivated her to always choose to see the light even in the darkest of times.
