22 Incredibly Fun Ways To Celebrate Success – Because You Deserve To

ways to celebrate success

If there’s one regret I have in life, it’s not taking the time to pause and celebrate my success along the way.

I’ve written and published multiple books, started my own business from the ground up, and planned and hosted a retreat half way around the world.

When I stop and think about it, that’s more than some people do in a lifetime. And I did that in the past three years.

In the hustle culture we live in today, it’s easy to get caught up in the vicious cycle of more.

Do more. Work more. Make more money.

And I get it. I do. Because achieving what you want in life, and reaching the levels of success you desire does require hard work and dedication.

But somewhere along the way, we forgot the importance of celebrating our success. We forgot that we’re not machines – we’re human beings – and we need a real break and some positive reinforcement now and then.

Because all the success in the world without self-acknowledgement becomes hollow and dull.

Play is just as important as work.

So I’ve put together a list of fun and creative ways to celebrate success.

Save it down somewhere on your laptop, or print it out and tape it to your wall. Check a different one off each time. Add your own ideas.

Maybe you finally wrote and published that book, you got a new client or a promotion, you just started your own business, you sold a painting, someone emailed you saying something you did changed their life, you quit a shitty job you hated, you hit your targets this month, or you’ve made good progress on a big project.

It can be as small or as grand as you choose.

There’s only one rule: next time you accomplish something you’re proud of, you have to stop and celebrate before you do anything else.

Okay?

Because we just don’t do that enough.

22 Incredibly Fun Ways To Celebrate Success

1. Take the day off

When you work for yourself like I do, the lines between work and play are in danger of becoming blurred. Seriously blurred.

But we all need time off to rest and recharge. This will actually benefit you and your work.

And there’s no better time to take a day off than when you’ve just accomplished something big.

Do absolutely nothing because you can’t remember the last time you weren’t busy. Or fill the space you’ve created with something that brings you joy.

2. Buy a cake

Cakes are not just for children’s birthday parties, or weddings. Cakes are good all the time.

If you love baking, then bake an over the top, rainbow layered unicorn shaped one.

Or treat yourself to an indulgent one in your local store. Candles are a must – we’re celebrating remember?

If you can’t find one that’s special enough, then buy your favourite sweets and use them to decorate and fill in the top.

Eat cake for breakfast. Eat nothing but cake all day. This is your day.

3. Drink champagne

And don’t scrimp here. Prosecco or sparkling wine will not do. And don’t reach for the cheapest bottle you can find. Go at least one bottle up from that.

Toast yourself for being awesome. Not out of a cup or wine glass. If you don’t have a flute, invest in a couple of those too.

Unless you don’t like champagne. In which case, fuck champagne. Get something you like.

4. Treat yourself to something that’s out of your budget

Maybe it’s a dress that costs $200, or a designer handbag that costs $1500.

I’m not saying break the bank so that you and your kids go hungry for the next month. But splurge enough that it feels like a real treat.

Make sure it’s something you usually wouldn’t buy, because it’s for “rich” people. Enjoy the feeling of being wealthy.

5. Gift yourself flowers

I love having fresh flowers in my house, so I tend to do this regularly. But I always go for the flowers in the supermarket.

Supermarket flowers are not celebration flowers. So raise your budget, and treat yourself to a gorgeous bouquet from a proper florist.

Every time you walk by them, remind yourself of what you’re celebrating.

6. Create a celebration pin board or collage

If you’re not in the habit of celebrating your successes, there’s a good chance plenty have come and gone without being properly acknowledged.

So grab yourself a large pin board or a blank piece of card (A2 or A1 is good), a stack of magazines, photos, quotes, messages, and any images that symbolise your success so far.

Welcome to your very own celebration collage.

Stick or pin on something to symbolise everything you’re proud of achieving so far, and keep adding to it in the future.

Keep it somewhere you can see it every day and be reminded of how far you’ve come.

7. Tick something off your bucket list

Maybe you’ve always wanted to ride in a hot air balloon, go for high tea in a fancy hotel, go to the ballet, or walk through a field of poppies.

If you can do it today, then do it. If it requires some notice or planning, then take a step forward today in making it happen.

And if you don’t have a bucket list, spend some time creating one today, and pick one thing off your new list to do!

8. Make a change

Get a new hairstyle or makeover. End that relationship that has been making you unhappy. Look for new jobs if you hate yours. Forgive someone, or release a grudge you’ve been holding onto. Make a new intention today that you’ll stick to every day going forwards.

Trust your intuition, and don’t hesitate to make a change today. The only way to make space for the new in life is to let go of the old.

So make a real change today.

Go on, I dare you.

9. Take yourself on a date

One of the loveliest ways to celebrate success is to take yourself on a solo date.

Maybe you go eat lunch in a posh restaurant you’ve always wanted to dine in. Maybe you pack yourself a gourmet picnic and head to the beach and watch the sunset. Or maybe you rent a limo (or hop in a taxi) for the day and drive around the city exploring like a tourist.

Think about what your dream date would be, then create it.

10. Tell the world what you achieved

Tell your Facebook friends. Then tell your Instagram friends. Call your actual friends and tell them you’re celebrating.

If you run a business, share the news in an email or social media update.

Open your window, and tell the world what you’ve achieved, and how damn proud you are of it.

This is no time to be modest.

11. Throw a party

Why not turn your celebration into an all out party?

Tell your friends. Stock up on cake and cocktails and balloons. And have a ball.

Waiting a whole year for your birthday to roll around again is no fun.

Why wait? You’re an adult now. The biggest perk is you can do what you want, whenever you want to.

12. Get seriously dressed up

If you’re someone who never dresses up, then something small like wearing a pair of heels or a sparkly dress might be enough to make you feel special.

And if you don’t know where to begin, why not treat yourself to a private session with a personal stylist today?

But if you’re someone (like me) who over-dresses all the time, then you’ve got to go to town here.

Heels, a gown that wouldn’t look out of place at the Met Gala, and glamorous hair & makeup. Better still, why not go get a makeover?

13. Restore your mind & body

Devoting all our resources to completing a big project can take a lot out of us. And it’s important to nourish our mind and body, and fill up our creative wells regularly.

So enjoy taking a two hour yoga class today, or going for a sunrise hike. Or maybe you could hop down to the ocean and catch a wave, or go for a dip in your local pool. Sit and peacefully meditate for an hour, or even just catch up on some much needed sleep.

Tune in to your body, and give yourself what you need today. You deserve it.

14. Upgrade something

I remember back in 2017 I had just quit my job, I wasn’t making much money, and my laptop was dying a slow death. The fan was constantly making a loud humming noise, it would often overheat and randomly shutdown on me, and needed to be constantly plugged in charging otherwise it would switch off.

I put off investing in a new one for months. I had the money, but it wasn’t flooding in, and I was managing to cope with what I had. But the thing is, I do everything on my laptop. It literally is the most important tool for my business.

Two years on after finally trading in, I’m still so grateful when I open my new laptop and switch it on. It doesn’t shutdown on me. It’s super quiet. And it makes it so much easier to run my business.

So today, I invite you to upgrade something in your life. Maybe your laptop or your phone. Or it could be the moisturiser you use every day, or even as big as the car you drive.

15. Go on a road trip

Hop in the car, bus, train, or even on a plane, and go somewhere. Anywhere. The choice is yours.

Head to the town next door that you’ve never been to. Get out of the city and enjoy the peace and greenery of the countryside.

Make sure you’ve got a killer road trip playlist and plenty of snacks to keep you going.

16. Create a celebration playlist and dance

Spotify is amazing for finding and creating any playlist you can think of. They have it all.

Today, the theme is celebration. So relax and enjoy putting together a bunch of songs that make you feel amazing. Songs that you just can’t help but get up and dance to.

And when you’re done, turn it up, and dance.

Around your bedroom. Around the house. In the shower. Wherever.

17. Book something BIG

That yoga retreat you’ve had your eye on for a while. That music festival you’ve wanted to head to for years. Or that coach you’ve always wanted to work with.

If you can’t afford to pay for it in full today, that’s okay. Just put down a deposit. A promise that you will make this happen.

18. Plant something in your garden

Why is it that we seem to save amazing things like this for when really sad things happen?

Planting a tree or a flower is a beautiful way of celebrating something you’ve achieved, and having a constant reminder of that around you always.

Plus, it’ll brighten up your garden, and it’s good for the planet.

19. Purchase a special piece of jewellery

I always think that jewellery should mean something to you. I used to buy a tonne of cheap, junk-like jewellery because I liked the way it looked. But now I only invest in quality pieces that really mean something to me. And when I wear them, I’m reminded of that.

So pick a beautiful ring, necklace, or pair of earrings today, and gift it to yourself. Invest in something that will last.

You could even have it engraved with a word or phrase that reminds you of what you’ve accomplished.

20. Print & frame your success

If you wrote an ebook, then get the cover blown up and printed out, and frame it.

Or if you got a new client, write yourself a cheque with the money you’re receiving, and frame it.

If someone sent you a wonderful message telling you how something you did changed their life, then print it out and frame it.

It’s so easy to forget all the amazing things we do in our lives, but having them framed on our walls reminds us.

21. Try something new today

A new restaurant, a new type of food, or a new activity. Or a new shade of lipstick, reading a new genre of book, or drinking coffee in a new cafe.

Try something new today because it’s fun to mix things up, and because this is no ordinary day.

22. Do something you loved doing as a child

Singing. Dancing. Colouring. Baking. Making. Skipping. Daydreaming. Jumping on the bed. Eating ice cream for breakfast. Stargazing. Running. Laughing until your sides ached.

Think back to what you loved doing as a child. What you would happily spend hours doing, without noticing them slip by.

Because children know how to play. It’s in their nature. And somewhere along the way to adulthood, we forgot how to.

Celebrating requires you to relax, and just play. Everything else can wait until tomorrow.

Celebrate today!

If you’ve achieved something you’re proud of in this lifetime, and you didn’t stop to celebrate it like it deserved to be, then I invite you to celebrate today.

Celebrate like you mean it.
