How To Write For She Rose Revolution
If you want to write for She Rose Revolution, then you have found your way to the right place, and I’m so glad you did!
As the Founder & Chief Heart Officer of She Rose Revolution, and currently the main editor, I want to help you understand exactly what we’re looking for from a submission, so that you can write something that gives us chills, and stirs our readers’ souls.
Read this carefully, and all the way to the end, and you’ll be way ahead of most people who send us submissions.
Here’s how to write with us at She Rose Revolution, and create a winning submission
What type of writing are we looking for?
We are looking for empowering and inspiring stories and personal essays, based on your own life experiences and opinions.
Tell us about the things you’ve learned, how they’ve helped you grow, and shaped you into the woman you are today. Or tell us about something you’re still learning, trying to heal, or make sense of.
Offer pieces of heartfelt wisdom, actionable messages or takeaways for our readers.
Themes & categories
We currently publish stories that fall into the following categories:
- Dating, relationships & sex
- Soul & spirituality
- Health & wellness (including new age topics)
- Pregnancy & motherhood
- Work & money
- Writing & creativity
- All things Goddess-y (including astrology, the moon, and feminine wisdom)
But the central theme weaving all our content together is that it’s authentic and must speak to and empower women.
You might want to write about something that angers or frustrates you, and why and how it needs to change. You might write about love, sex, or loss, and how your experiences have changed you. Or you might want to write about what you’ve learned from quitting your job to travel the world, or starting your own business.
Write about your struggle to learn to fully love and accept yourself for who you are. Write about a turning point in your life. A time when you made the decision to let go of all that was weighing you down, and how this has transformed you. Or write about a personal trauma you’ve endured and the journey you’ve been on to heal yourself.
We invite you to take a look at some of the pieces on our site right now to get a feel for the content and style we’re looking for.
Introducing: The Writer’s Coven
We know some of you aren’t experienced writers but are still interested in deepening your craft and getting published.
That’s why we’ve created The Writer’s Coven.
You will learn more about the entire writing, editing & publishing process; discover how to get published with us + your favorite online platforms; and how to make a living as a freelance writer.
Many of our current authors have been through the program and found it incredibly valuable.
Learning, and daring, to write from my heart, and write things that scare me, helped me take my writing to the next level. So we encourage all our writers to do the same.
As you write, you might feel some fear or shame arising – this still happens to me today. But keep writing. Keep going. Feel it, and move through it.
If you end up writing something you don’t feel comfortable sharing – we can always publish it anonymously so your name isn’t tied to it. Just let us know in your submission you want us to do that.
And sometimes, you might write something you don’t want to be published at all, and that’s totally okay, just keep it for you.
The more you write about things that scare you or embarrass you, the more liberated you’ll feel; and the stronger you’ll grow as a writer.
So we invite you to be raw and real when you write. Write whatever wants to come through you. Dare to raise your voice, and be witnessed in your power and magic.
A gentle reminder: hate does not have a home here
Even when you’re filled with rage, confusion, sadness, or fear, we ask that you be mindful of how you’re expressing that with your words.
So be angry. Be frustrated. Be opinionated. We love that. If you’ve read my work, you know I often am!
But don’t shame anyone, abuse anyone, or aim to cause offense with your submissions. Be mindful of how you’re expressing your thoughts.
It goes without saying that we don’t publish hateful or negative pieces here. And most of you won’t need this reminder.
Proofread your writing
Before you send us a submission, please proofread it. Ensure you’ve self-edited it, and thoroughly checked for grammar and spelling errors. And if you’re including quotes or stats or research, please include a link to all the original sources.
When we receive work filled with sloppy errors, it gives us the impression you don’t care about what you’ve sent us. And that makes it hard for us to care, too.
I know it takes time and focus to carefully read through a piece of writing. But this is a skill that every writer needs to master.
If you’re not a native English writer, and you know you struggle with this, then try and find someone who you trust to read through your work before sending it to us.
Make sure it’s original
We are only interested in receiving original, unpublished work from you.
Please don’t re-work old articles, or send us something that has already been published elsewhere. This doesn’t help you grow as a writer, or build up your portfolio.
We will check all submissions through an online plagiarism checker, and anything we deem to be unoriginal will be rejected.
How long should my submission be?
The pieces we publish usually range from 500 words all the way to 2000+ words. It really depends on what you’re writing about, and how much you have to say.
But we definitely believe in quality over quantity. So please don’t try and pad out your piece with fluff, just to make it look longer!
And please only send us one submission at a time. Once we’ve reviewed it and gotten back to you, you are welcome to submit another one.
We aim to respond to all submissions within one week. However, we are a small team right now, and sometimes there may be a delay, so please bear with us if you don’t hear back from us within this time.
We haven’t forgotten you!
While we don’t review submissions on weekends, please know you are always welcome to submit on those days.
Notes about editing
We will often make changes to your proposed title, and make smaller edits to your piece if we deem this necessary.
If we like your piece but think it needs larger edits, we will reach out to you to let you know, and invite you to re-work it and send it back to us.
How to send your submissions to us
When you’re ready to send your work to us, please head to our submissions page by clicking here. And please note we are looking for fully written stories, not pitches.
Fill out the form, agree to our submission terms, and that’s it. It’ll be out of your hands, and in ours.
We can’t wait to read what you write for us, here at She Rose Revolution!
A note on rejection
When I was a freelance writer, especially at the start of my career, I experienced plenty of rejection.
There were so many sites I personally loved, and would regularly read. I’d get really excited and nervous about sending them a submission or pitch. Then I’d feel deflated or annoyed if I got rejected or, even worse, never heard back from them.
And I want you to know this is part of being a writer. Don’t let it stop you from writing, and continuing to put your work out there.
And if you haven’t ever written anything before, don’t worry. We don’t care how much experience you have, or don’t have. We’re looking for people who are able to put their personal thoughts and feelings into words that resonate with other people. And you don’t need to be a professional writer to be able to do that.
If we decide to pass on your submission, please don’t take it personally. We’d love you to take our feedback and try again. Never give up on something your soul wants. Keep pursuing the things you love; the things that bring light and joy into your world.
And that’s everything you need to know to write for She Rose Revolution!
