The Full Moon In Capricorn 2023: Seek Security Inside & Out

full moon in capricorn ritual 2023

The full moon in Capricorn 2023 (also known as the full buck moon) is almost here, but what is the energy of this lunation, and how can you celebrate it with a magical ritual at home?

With the sun in Cancer and the moon in Capricorn, both frequencies will influence this full moon in similar yet different ways. Cancer is very much in the heart and concerned with internal peace and security, while Capricorn is in the head and focused on outward growth and success. So, how can you harness both of these flavors on this full moon and ground and elevate them inside and out?

What does a full moon symbolize?

A full moon invites you to explore your shadows, let go, expand, and celebrate how far you’ve come. The moon has a strong feminine vibe (and is a mirror for our menstrual cycle), amplified on the full moon as she illuminates the night sky.

A full moon occurs roughly every 29 days (the length of one lunar cycle) and is one of the four main phases of the moon cycle (along with the new, waxing, and waning moon).

What is the full moon in capricorn 2023 about?

Clear out anything that is not aligned with your goals

Full moons are always a time to release anything that no longer serves us. On this Capricorn full moon, focus on letting go of anything (objects, beliefs, habits, relationships) draining your life force energy and keeping you from aligning with your soul path and achieving your dreams.

When we cling to things that no longer feel aligned, they keep us stifled, stagnant, and distracted from what matters. Are you willing to let go of something that might be good to make space for something extraordinary?

Finish what you started

At the new moon, we seed new intentions and enjoy a fresh start. Between the new moon and full moon, we take outward action toward our intentions and goals, and the full moon is a time to celebrate all you’ve accomplished since the new moon or many moons ago.

Think about what you’d most like to complete between now and the next new moon and make a plan of action to get there. Some goals are big and require longer to manifest, so focus on a smaller part of this goal that you’d like to finish.

Seek security

Cancer seeks security within the body, with our feelings, and in the home. Meanwhile, Capricorn seeks protection through external status and accomplishments, which is typically how society views success. Both are equally important for us to feel at peace within ourselves and our world. We don’t have to choose one or the other. We can choose to be both strong and soft, tough and tender, hard-working and playful, depending on the situation.

On this Capricorn full moon, can you allow yourself to embody both aspects of this wide spectrum? And what can you do to gift yourself a greater sense of security, internally and externally?

Balance work & rest

The Capricorn full moon may leave you feeling like no matter how hard you work or how much you accomplish, it’s not enough. Anyone with Capricorn in their chart knows this feeling well—Capricorn is the hardest working kid of the zodiac. There is the underlying feeling that we must earn our right to rest or play, and even when we do allow ourselves some time off, there may be guilt around it.

But with the opposing energy of the sun in Cancer, we are reminded that rest does not need to be earned. You are more than enough as you are right now.

So allow yourself to bask in the success of everything you’ve achieved up to this point. And reflect on your current work-rest balance. It’s impossible to strike a perfect balance when it comes to anything, but the invite is to see if you feel off-kilter. Have you been pushing too hard and grown too hard in the process? Do you need to create more space for self-care and to pour back into your own cup? Now is the time to recalibrate, to choose again, and to make wise woman choices that serve you inside and out.

#1. Water + earth

This full moon, earth (Capricorn), meets water (Cancer), so incorporating these sacred elements into your ritual is a wonderful way to embody the frequency in the air. When you literally combine earth and water, you make clay. You could attend a pottery-making class or have a go at making something out of clay at home. Don’t get caught up in the finished result, and enjoy the process.

If that doesn’t excite you, think about how you can incorporate these elements into your home or on your altar.

Earth = plants, flowers, soil, shells, stones, crystals, sand.

Water = collect fresh water from a local spring or river, make moon water, or leave a bucket out overnight to collect some rainwater.

#2. Let go of anything that feels out of alignment

As part of your Capricorn full moon ritual, make a list of anything that you’ve outgrown or no longer feel inspires or supports your growth and soul mission. You can then tear it into pieces and bury it in the ground or burn it.

But don’t stop here. If it’s a physical thing, plan to give it away or donate it. If it’s a pattern or belief, rewrite it so that it empowers you. If it’s a relationship, how can you take a step back from it or cut ties completely? This will be challenging, but you owe it to yourself to do what’s in your highest good.

#3. Take a bath

I love taking a bath as part of my full moon ritual and like to incorporate elements that celebrate the astrological theme of each moon. So maybe that means for your Capricorn-themed full moon ritual, you gather some crystals, wildflowers from the garden, or fresh or dried herbs and add them to your water. You can also add salts, essential oils, sliced fruits, honey, coconut oil, blitzed oats, and anything else you like.

Light some candles, put on some peaceful background music, and let yourself relax. This is the perfect ritual for anyone who tends to work more than rest or play and needs more self-care.
